Edward R. Murrow
Born in 1908, this newsman started in radio. His broadcasts from Europe prior to the start of World War II, brought him to near celebrity status. Although he was back in the States before the war included America, he returned to Europe to report on the war from there. He did many reports from the scene, including one on an Allied bombing raid, and he was present at the liberation of the Buchenwald Camp in Germany.
In the early 1950s, he appeared doing commentary at the end of the CBS evening news on TV. He is credited with increasing news staffs at CBS. Murrow passed away 2 days after his 57th birthday. He received the Peabody Award (international award for excellence in radio and television Broadcasting) numerous times. He also was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. There is a High School in Brooklyn named after him.
Reading about Murrow made me think about what other public figures I have grown to admire. Who is someone you admire and why do you admire them? What are some of their accomplishments?

I admire Michael Jordan because he finished school and went to college. He has a education. Michael became a great team player and basketball player. He played with some of most famous basketball players ever.

I admired my dad because of the things he did for me. He took all my brothers and sister when my mom was down. of on her bad side then she left out of our lives my father took us 3 in. He supports her all the way. That is how hard things can be.

I like Barack Obama because he is helping schools. I also like that he is sending the United States money. Another thing I like is that he is helping poor people. I also like Obama because he is the President of the United States.

I like Lady Gaga because she donated 1 million dollars to the homeless youth. Lady Gaga also made a charity bracelet to raise money for the japanese tsunami. I look up to Lady Gaga.

Someone I think is cool is Jeff Kinney. He wrote the series Diary of a Wimpy Kid. The stories are funny. They make me want to read more. I am looking forward to seeing the movies too. Reading the stories makes me want to go to middle school.

I admire Michael Jackson. He donated money for cancer patients. He was nice and polite. He has sweet kids.

Rhianna gives to a charity for terminally ill children. She created the Believe Foundation in 2006. She performs many concerts to support that and other charities. I think that is what I want to do when I grow up.

I admire Kobe Bryant because he is one of the greatest basketball players ever. Not only is he a great player, he supports many charities. He started the After School All-Stars program that helps 72,000 inner city-kids.

I admire Obama the President of the United States of America. I admire him because he is a smart black man and handsome too. He is also about his family. He is a good dad and husband. He is doing ok with this country and I am happy that he is my President.

Gomez was named spokesperson for UNICEF's 2009 Trick-or-Treat campaign, for the second year in a row. Gomez is involved in Disney's Friends for Change, an organization which promotes "environmentally-friendly behavior". Gomez participated in St. Jude's Children's Hospital "Runway For Life" benefit.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt donated 1 million dollars to Doctors Without Borders. Since 2001, Jolie has gone around the world and met with refugees and displaced people in more than 20 countries, including Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Cambodia, Thailand, Kosovo, Kenya, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Costa Rica, Chad, and Syria, to name a few. Most recently she visited earthquake victims in Haiti on her latest trip to help survivors of conflict and natural disaster. I think this is good because it helps lots of people who need it.

Will Smith is a person that I admire. He and his wife Jada Pinkett started their own foundation called The Will and Jada Smith Family Foundation. It is for kids and the communities they're in. They also support the Red Cross and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.

I admire Allen Iverson because he is a good person. The things he does that I admire is, he helps build courts in inner cities, and gives to the Boys and Girls Clubs and to HIV/AIDS Awareness groups.

I admire my mom because she takes care of me and my sister. She got her Masters Degree and buys me everything I need. She helps me with my home work. That's what I want to do for my kids someday.

Someone I admire is Shigeru Miyamoto because he is the creator of some of the best games like super Mario, dk, the legend of Zelda, Starfox,and pkmin. Miyamoto in his years working at Nintendo won a lot of awards and recognition. He will make more games I hope and one day I hope i can be a game designer like him.

I admire Will Smith because he dedicated money to suffering families and children in South Africa. Will Smith visited the Miami Children's hospital and gave toys and DVDs to sick children.

I admire Derek Jeter because he started the Turn 2 Foundation to keep kids off of drugs and alcohol. In the 12 years it has been around, the foundation has raised 8 million dollars.

My Sister Celiza is a rapper, she sings in clubs and she writes her own songs and she is a good singer. She is a good role model for me.

Lloyd is a rapper. His full name is Lloyd Polite Jr. In 2004, he released his debut cd and called it Southside. He donated his hair to Locks of Love. He is my favorite singer.
